The Shadow

I watch people say the wisest things one minute, then do the very foolish things they were speaking against the next.

I watch people find the words they uttered be quoted word by word back at them.

I watch people point fingers, only for them to find those same fingers pointed back at them.

I watch people become the very people they claimed they were not or never wanted to be.

I watch people make fools of themselves—not always intentionally trying to be hypocrites, yet ironically and unintentionally becoming one.

I watch people find themselves staring into mirrors held up by different people, one after another.

And I watch myself staring at the mirror they hold in front of me.

Life’s unpredictability.

The paradox of human nature.

Reflections within reflections.

The illusions we live by.

Is it an epidemic?

A flaw in our design?

Or simply the nature of being human?
